  15. <p>     DIED. WILLIAM GOLDING, 81, author; of a heart attack; in Perranarworthal,
  16. England. Golding's first published novel, Lord of the Flies,
  17. won critical acclaim for its disturbing depiction of the descent
  18. of marooned schoolboys into barbarism. Golding, who published
  19. nine other novels, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983
  20. and was knighted five years ago.
